Background
Fruits of Labor is a nationally certified Culinary and Agricultural Training Center that supports adults recovering from addiction. Their Café & Bakery locations serve as hands-on learning environments where students can develop culinary skills while providing restaurant services to their communities.
Poised for rapid growth and expansion across West Virginia, Fruits of Labor partnered with us—through collaboration with another client—to create a fresh brand identity and experience that would support their mission and scale with their vision.
Design Considerations
The client had clear ideas about their logo, brand colors, and packaging, and was initially hesitant about changing their existing logo. The original logo was intricate and difficult to read, but it held sentimental value due to its floral elements.
We approached the redesign with care, explaining the benefits of a clean, strong logo while presenting several thoughtful options that preserved the floral qualities they loved. The final logo beautifully reflects their core mission: empowering adults in recovery to build new lives through skill development and hard work.
In addition to updating the website with a refreshed identity and new content, we also developed print materials, packaging, and introductory social media campaigns to support the brand launch.
To ensure the team could confidently carry the brand forward, we created comprehensive brand guidelines and photography standards that empower internal use and long-term consistency.
Challenges
While developing their e-commerce site, we worked within the limitations of their chosen platform, including its integration with their point-of-sale system and online ordering tools. Despite these constraints, we were able to deliver a solution that clearly communicates their mission and provides a smooth user experience.
Success
SVML helped lay the foundation for a consistent, scalable brand that Fruits of Labor can continue to grow as they expand their impact.
This was a meaningful project for our team—knowing that our work played a small part in helping transform lives in a region deeply affected by addiction, but filled with hope and resilience on the path to recovery.
